In today’s digital age, there’s no need to go into the office every day, our virtually connected lives make it easy to work from anywhere that has wifi signal! Without the constant interruptions and having other people to distract you, it’s easier to get more done simply by working from home occasionally…as long as you don’t get easily distracted by the tv and your favourite boxset!

Productivity only goes so far in a home office. Working from your bed will not make you the most proficient. But a functional work space doesn’t have to take a lot of space, all you need is a desk for your laptop/computer.

If you are looking to start working remotely or are a new business, perhaps working for yourself,  try these home-office decorating ideas to give you the most optimal work space, get your interior design juices flowing!

Natural Light

We always think of home offices as stale, boring spaces, usually with a desk facing the wall, but what if you put your desk in front of a window instead?! Especially coming into the winter months, natural light is your friend, however you can get it! All that extra natural light your body will get, will make you a lot more productive, along with making you feel more alert and happier. It’s amazing what a bit of natural light can do for boosting your mood!

Decor

Just because it’s an office, doesn’t mean it has to be a dull space with plain white walls. The space should reflect your personality, no matter what it is you do for work. Try painting your walls a fun and inspiring colour, something thats going to get you motivated. You should make your office a space you enjoy being in. Perhaps you could add a splash of colour with a fun painting, a brightly coloured rug or even some plants or flowers. If you’re tired of staring at a wall or host many meetings, try floating your desk in the middle of the room, don’t let what people have done in the past stop your creative thinking when it comes to making your office. Now that we all own laptops, it’s easy to create a work space that doesn’t feel like a cubicle.

Furniture

All you really need for a home office these days is a desk of some kind, perhaps a desk lamp for those wintery days and a comfy chair. There are so many different types of desks available these days that you shouldn’t find it hard to find one that suits your needs and personality. One really great place to find a good range of affordable desks is at Lionshome, who also do a variety of lamps and chairs as well so you might be able to get it all from the same place!

Storage

When it comes to the home office, storage is everything, however, space doesn’t have to be an issue when it comes to home offices. Obviously there is the usual types of storage like shelving or desk draws, but why not repurpose is un-used closet perhaps?! They generally look a lot nicer than normal office storage and it’s a great way to recycle your old items. Give it a lick of paint and it’ll look as good as new! If you don’t have a lot of spare space at home, there is no need to dedicate an entire room to your home office. In this living room, you could always carve out a small bit of space for your desk in your living room or dining room perhaps.

Hopefully this has given you some inspiration when it comes to designing and styling your home office. Think outside the box and be creative!
