Everything About Root Canal- When, How, And What?

All of us know the importance of maintaining health. For this, we follow a particular schedule of exercise, food, and whatnot. It’s a good thing, but somehow while taking care of the overall health, we ignore the most important thing, “teeth.” As a result, we have to go through several dental problems. It’s always advisable to visit the dentist every six months for better oral health.

Today, we’ll be talking about one of the dental practices that allow people with root infection issues. Let’s begin!

Root Canal: This treatment helps eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal and relieve patients from severe pain. It also helps in preventing the reinfection of the tooth. This is the best way to save the original tooth.

When Treatment is needed: When you feel severe pain in chewing food, the root may be infected. For this, you have to visit a dentist. For instance, Artistic Smiles Miami Dentist recommends visiting dental experts when there is a deep infection within the tooth by the bacteria. If you ignore the problem, then there may be chances to remove the tooth permanently, so it’s better to never leave the infectious tooth untreated.

How is The Root Canal Performed?

It’s always a good idea to have prior knowledge about treatment. This is usually completed in two visits, depending on the severity of the condition. Keep on reading about it.

  1. Numb the tooth: The first step is to numb the tooth by giving local anesthesia with a needle. After numbing the tooth, the endodontist places the dental dam -a rubber sheet that isolates the tooth from the rest of the teeth.
  2. Accessing and cleaning the area: Now, the dentist creates an opening at the top portion of the tooth by using a small drill tool. After that, he thoroughly cleans up the root canal and pulp chamber with an antiseptic and antibacterial solution. This eliminates the bacteria from the root canal and pulp chamber.
  3. Shaping and filling the area: The next step is to fill the canal but, before that, the canal must be shaped by the instrument. After that, filling material such as gutta-percha is used to fill the canal. The dentist will close the opening in your tooth with a temporary filling so that no bacteria will enter into the tooth.
  4. Prescribe medicine: The dentist will prescribe you antibiotics for 3 to 5 days depending upon the patient’s condition, killing the rest of the infections and alleviating the pain.
  5. Crown placement: In your next visit, the dentist will place a permanent crown or restoration on the top of the tooth depending upon the natural tooth’s condition.

What Are The Precautionary Measures?

After the root canal treatment, you must take care of teeth and gums. You must schedule your visit to the dentist again to check whether all the signs of the infection are gone.

It’s always essential to take good care of your oral hygiene. Brush twice a day, which helps to protect the teeth from infections. With good treatment, an infected tooth is treated and saved for the rest of its life.
