Have you ever wondered how fashion trends come into existence? I know you’re thinking” fashion designers” …well, not always. As a matter of fact not all trends were dreamed up by clothing designers. Sometimes a clothing trend develops from random people, celebrities and places you would least expect.
Take for instance the double denim , do you know how that fashion trend came to be? This look was worn during the 2001 AMAs by Britney and Justin. Also, platform trainers weren’t always a thing it was a trend that started During the nineties, thanks to the girl bands of the time.
in this post we are going to be taking a look at how some interesting fashion trends came into existence thanks to the help of Trilogy Stores – retailers of Rebecca Taylor UK:
Underwear as outwear
Whoever thought wearing underwear as an outwear would becoming a thing. Thanks to madonna, it did. madonna began the “underwear as outwear” trend in the ’80s by wearing her cone bra and girdles over her clothing, this style was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier.
Since then, This fashion trend has taken center stage and has become a norm. It is not uncommon to find Ladies wearing lingerie as normal clothing. Some of the celebrities who can be credited with popularizing the existence of this fashion trend, in the news and during stage performance, include Lil’ Kim, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. we have also seen Lindsay Lohan on the catwalk with a black corset top layered over a white shirt — paired with a bootcut jean of course. This trend is still very well present as we’ve seen the Kardashians rocking this style in 2018
So many Other celebrities and influencers have also taken on the trend.
Cropped pants
Have you ever rocked a pair of cropped pants? If you have, do you sometimes wonder who invented them?
This fashion trend came about Between the nineties and the mid-noughties. Cropped pants also come in form of denim or pale pastel shade, amongst others. This denim trend became poplularized by fashionistas some of which were the Spice Girls and Christina Aguilera and so These days you can see people wearing cropped jeans literally every where you turn. it’s safe to say that this trend is coming back and is here to stay.
many celebrities sporting their designer cropped jeans include – Jennifer Lawrence, during the Door SS17 Paris show, Jennifer Lawrence wore them with heels and a sheer top. Selena Gomez has also been spotted in a pair, teamed with patent loafers and a casual white shirt.
What about Cropped combat trousers? These were also big and the British girl band, All Saints, was a fan of this fad.
When it comes to the Two-piece tracksuits It was Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Paris Hilton who started this trend off. Britney even had her bridal party dressed in two-piece tracksuits ahead of her wedding to Kevin Federline. Then, they became slightly over-worn by more Z-list celebs and fell off the radar…
Footwear
One trend that we can never forget is the Platformed trainers, this trend which started as far back as the 18th century was re-introduced in the nighties by the UK fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, apparently this trend didn’t catch on until the late nineties when the iconic spice girls, began to Rock this trend.
One of the things people loved About platform shoes is that it provided added height without the discomfort that regular heels provided. However, it can be said that these shoes were worn primarily because they attracted attention. Whether they were white tennis shoes, lace-up boots or sandals, they had to have a huge platform. This fashion trend seems to have made a huge comeback this season as Gucci’s rainbow platform metallic sneakers and Rihanna’s range of Puma platformed trainers are currently on sale.
How could we forget jelly shoes? It is thought that they were invented due to a leather shortage during World War II, leading to a French shoemaker creating shoes from plastic. This is one of the trends that has come and gone throughout the years, with a surge of the shoes in 2002 and another rise to popularity in 2009.
Needless, to say tht these fashion trends are still very much in vogue, so we haven’t seen the last of them. the future still lies ahead and I’m sure it will bring with it many more cringe worthy trends that we still cant help but recieve.

It is really interesting to know how fashion trends came around, I have to admit I’ve never looked into it much but I am so into cropped trousers.

Oh man, I barely pay attention to fashion so I have ZERO clue what’s in and what’s not in, but regardless, I don’t even care! I like LONG T-SHIRTS! haha!

Looking back at fashion trends can bring a lot of laughs! But they do seem to come back. I hadn’t realized that platforms shoes were back. I’m short, so maybe they’ll be a good choice for me.

Platformed trainers just sounded like such a strange thing to me. But I have seen them about no doubt. And the underwear as outerwear, I remember when Madonna popularized the look. I always found it interesting.
